ITINERARY

11 NIGHTS / 12 DAYS

Day 1: Santiago

Arrival in Santiago de Chile and transfer from the airport to the hotel. In the afternoon, get to know this interesting city on a half day city tour. 

 

Day 2: Santiago (B)

Enjoy a taste of Chilean wines with a half day tour to the Concha y Toro winery (or similar) for an explanation of the wine making processes and a tasting of the wines. 

Day 3: Santiago (B, L)

See the sights of Valparaiso, Chile’s main port, and the resort of Vina del Mar on a full day tour to the coast from Santiago. Lunch is included at a typical restaurant in Vina. 

Day 4: Santiago – Punta Arenas – Cruise (B, D)

This morning transfer to the airport for the flight to Punta Arenas, gateway to Patagonia. Transfer to the pier and board Mare Australis for the 5 day cruise through the fiords of Patagonia and around Cape Horn to Ushuaia in Argentina. Enjoy welcome cocktails with the captain and the crew as the ship departs towards the city of Ushuaia, through the mythical Strait of Magellan, sailing through the Patagonian Channels and around Tierra del Fuego. 

 

Day 5: Cruise (B, L, D)

Dawn breaks over Almirantazgo Fjord and disembarkation at Ainsworth Bay near Marinelli Glacier, to walk to see an elephant seal colony closely and to appreciate the Magellan Forests. Later disembark at the bay of the Brookes Glacier to hike near the glacier. 

Day 6: Cruise (B, L, D)

Disembark in the bay of the Pia Glacier to see the glacier from a good vantage point. Navigate through the Beagle Channel and pass by spectacular “Glacier Avenue.” 

Day 7: Cruise (B, L, D)

Sail through the Beagle Channel and Murray Channel to disembark at the Cabo de Hornos (Cape Horn) National Park, weather permitting.

 Visit Horn Island to get a panoramic view of the famous and mystical Cape Horn, the place where the Pacific and Atlantic oceans merge. Disembark in Puerto Williams, the southernmost town of the world. 

Day 8: Ushuaia – Buenos Aires (B)

Arrival at Ushuaia, the most important Argentinean city of the Tierra del Fuego, and the southernmost city in the world. Disembarkation 8:00 a.m. Transfer to the airport for the flight to Buenos Aires. Arrive Buenos Aires and transfer to the selected hotel in the heart of the commercial and entertainment district for 4 nights. 

Day 9: Buenos Aires (B)

Today enjoy the sights of this cosmopolitan capital on a half day tour of the city. The tour introduces the most beautiful, and interesting parts of Buenos Aires: the famous Casa Rosada, and the beautiful Recoleta cemetery. The guide will explain the history of the city, and how it has been affected by successive waves of immigration. 

Day 10: Buenos Aires (B, L)

After breakfast at the hotel, leave for a full day gaucho experience on the nearby pampas. The Fiesta Gaucha highlights the history and the distinctive lifestyle of the famous cowboys of Argentina. This highly entertaining and educational experience features a traditional Argentine barbeque, an authentic taste of life on the pampas. 

Day 11: Buenos Aires (B, D)

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel then take advantage of a free day to search out some of the terrific bargains in the shopping districts. In the evening immerse yourself in that most haunting aspect of all Argentine culture, the Tango. Have dinner and revel in the rhythms and dance of this famous music. 

 

Day 12: Buenos Aires (B)

Transfer to the airport for your flight back home or to an on-going destination.
