ITINERARY

8 NIGHTS / 9 DAYS

DAY 1: LISBON

Arrival in Lisbon and transfer from the airport to the hotel. The rest of your day is free at leisure. Overnight in Lisbon.

DAY 2: LISBON / SINTRA / ÓBIDOS / FÁTIMA (B)

Enjoy breakfast before you check-out and pick up your rental car. Drive to Sintra and discover the Pena Palace, located at the top of Pena mountain. Explore the historic center and taste the local delights: travesseiros and queijadas. Next, drive to the village of Óbidos. This medieval walled town is full of Gothic churches, narrow winding streets, and small shops where you can taste the famous ginjinha (cherry liqueur). End your day in Fátima, a place of pilgrimage and faith. Overnight in Fatima.

DAY 3: FÁTIMA / ALCOBAÇA / NAZARÉ / BATALHA / FÁTIMA

Breakfast at the hotel. Visit two monasteries today: the Monastery of Santa Maria and the Santa Maria da Vitoria. The first is in Alco- baça and houses the largest church in the country. The second is in Batalha. Between these two cities, take a lunch break at the picturesque fishing village of Nazaré. Known for its great waves, surfers all over the world flock to the beautiful bay. Return to Fátima for overnight.

DAY 4: FÁTIMA / COIMBRA / AVEIRO / PORTO

Travel to Coimbra – the city of students. Stroll in the oldest part of Coimbra, made of narrow streets that lead to the top of the hill. Continue to Aveiro, the “Portuguese Venice”, crossed by the Ria de Aveiro, a lagoon basin where the fresh waters of the Vouga river mix with the waters of the sea, navigable by moliceiros, small and typical colored vessels. Continue to Porto, located on the mouth of the Douro, and visit its historical center. Do not miss the Cathedral, the Clérigos Tower, the Ribeira area, Casa da Música and the Serralves Foundation. Overnight in Porto.

 

DAY 5: PORTO / DOURO REGION / VISEU (B)

Enjoy Breakfast at the hotel before you check-out. Head to the first classical wine region in the world to be delimited – the region of the Douro Valley. During the journey, stop on the spectacular belvederes and admire the landscapes!

Drive by Mesão Frio and Peso da Régua before leaving to Viseu. Overnight in Viseu.

DAY 6: VISEU / TOMAR / FÁTIMA (B)

Continue to Tomar, former city of the Order of the Templars who founded the Convent of Christ, containing testimonies of Roman, Gothic, Manueline, Renaissance, Mannerism and more of the baroque. Continue to Fátima for overnight.

DAY 7: FÁTIMA / ESTREMOZ / ÉVORA (B)

Depart for Estremoz and explore a little bit before heading to Évora, which stands amidst the beautiful plains of the Alentejo. Visiting the Roman Temple, the Roman-Gothic Cathedral, and the church of São Francisco whose main attraction is the Chapel of the Bones. Overnight in Evora.

 

DAY 8: ÉVORA / LISBON (B)

Arrive in Lisbon today and enjoy the free day exploring. Overnight in Lisbon.

DAY 9: LISBON (B)

Transfer to the airport for your flight back home or to an on-going destination.
